NEW YORK—After a combination of public and VIP vote, Columbia Athletics announced its All-150 Football Anniversary Teams Wednesday afternoon. Two teams from two different eras were announced: an Ivy League Era Team (1956-current) and a Pre-Ivy League Era Team (1870-1956).
Defensive lineman Marcellus Wiley '97 received the most votes of any player on the ballot as he garnered a field-best 1,104 total points. The 10-year NFL veteran, former Pro Bowler and Columbia All-American earned 70 percent of the popular vote and 92 percent of the VIP vote.
Joining Wiley among the All-150 Team top-10 vote-getters are No. 2 Gerald Audette '52 (972 points), No. 3 Sid Luckman '39 (964 points), No. 4 Bill Campbell '62 (921), No. 5 John Witkowski '84 (786), No. 6 Rory Wilfork '97 (784), No. 7 Johnathan Reese '02 (713), No. 8 Al Barabas '36 (710), No. 9 Des Werthman '93 (707), and No. 10 Paul Governali '43 (701).
The teams were compiled by a combination of votes from the general public, along with a select group of VIP voters. A total of 759 individuals voted in the popular vote after 1,604 individuals viewed the ballot. In addition, 87 total VIP voters participated. VIP voters included all Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame football inductees, select donors, Columbia administrators, Columbia football coaching staff members, and other media members. VIP votes counted as 10 points for every one popular vote.
Players listed on the ballot either earned All-America, All-Region or First or Second Team All-Ivy League honors and were either a high-level academic honoree, were inducted members of the Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame, played NFL football, were selected to one of Columbia's previous All-Anniversary Teams, and/or were listed prominently in a pertinent statistical category in school history.
The All-150 Team was selected as part of Columbia Football's 150-Anniversary celebration. In addition to the All-150 Team, Columbia celebrated its 150th Anniversary of Football with a social media and virtual initiative featuring three fan-friendly events, numerous historical feature stories, social media posts, and fan interaction polls. The celebration runs from September through the end of November.
Columbia Football is the nation's third oldest college football program. Columbia took part in its first-ever football game on November 12, 1870, against Rutgers in New Brunswick, N.J.
