Maya Rudolph Brings It As Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris On ‘Saturday Night Live’

Vice President Elect Kamala Harris is the gift that just keeps on giving. And her ascension as the most powerful woman ever in this country means more Maya Rudolph impersonating on Saturday Night Live. For what just might have been the most-highly anticipated SNL episode of the year, hosted by none other than Dave Chappelle, Rudolph brought it.

SNL cold-opened on a skit of CNN’s coverage of election week culminating in the announcement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next President-elect and Vice President-elect. After Jim Carrey’s Biden spoke, Rudolph popped up as the woman of the hour, fully dressed in our new VP’s cream suit and all from the duo’s acceptance speech in Delaware just barely three hours before. From the hair, the American flag pin on her cream suit and the inflection in her words, Rudolph nailed it!

“I am humbled and honored to be the first female [applause], yes [wild applause], the first Black [applause], the first Indian-American [applause] and the first biracial vice president [applause]. And if any of that terrifies you, well, I don’t give a font. Also, my husband will be the first second gentleman and he’s Jewish. So, between us, we check more boxes than a disqualified ballot.”

“And to all the little Black and Brown girls watching right now, I just want to say this: the reason your mom is laughing so much tonight is because she’s drunk. And the reason she’s crying is because she’s drunk. Your mom is going to switch from laughing to crying to dancing pretty much all night [applause]. And it’s not because she’s crazy, it’s because she’s drunk.”

Where is the lie?

To close the segment out, Biden and Harris did a victory dance to, wait for it, “You About To Lose Your Job!” before the skit segued to Alec Baldwin as Trump.

As a bonus, we got more Rudolph after Chappelle’s monologue, with the Emmy winner (yes she won her first two Emmys, one for portraying Kamala Harris, earlier this year) transforming into Aunt Jemima for the skit about the controversial pancake spokeswoman and Uncle Ben (Kenan Thompson) losing their jobs.

Yes, it’s going to be a good four years in America and on SNL too. For the full clip, see below.
