Sylvester Stallone is to be reunited with director James Gunn as he's now joined the cast of The Suicide Squad.

The iconic action star, who previously worked with Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, will now become part of the Worlds of DC as he joins the likes of Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, John Cena and Peter Capaldi and more for the new anti-hero team-up movie.

Gunn took to social media on Sunday (November 15) to make the casting announcement, expressing his excitement to work with the actor once again.

"Always love working with my friend @officialslystallone & our work today on #TheSuicideSquad was no exception," the director wrote on Instagram, alongside an image of himself with the Rocky act0r.

He added: "Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don't have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is."

Stallone himself also posted on Instagram to speak about his casting, writing: "Working with this incredible director on this astounding project has made this an amazing year. I am a very lucky man to be surrounded by such talent!"

Earlier this week, Gunn announced the castings of Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad and Danielle Brooks for John Cena's Suicide Squad TV spin-off Peacemaker, while also confirming that the upcoming HBO Max series will be part of the Worlds of DC movie universe.

The Suicide Squad is currently due for release on August 6, 2021.
