Charli D’Amelio has hit a major snag on her way to 100 million followers.
The 16-year-old TikTok sensation — who boasts the highest follower count on the popular social media platform — appears to be the latest celebrity to get canceled. She’s hemorrhaged 1 million followers after what some perceived as offensive remarks and an overall snotty attitude.
The petty drama started when the D’Amelio family posted a video to their YouTube channel Monday that went viral for depicting a cringeworthy dinner-table disagreement with her parents, Marc and Heidi, her sister, Dixie, fellow TikToker James Charles and personal chef Aaron May.
The controversial clip, the first in a series called “Dinner With the D’Amelios,” contains a scene where May is explaining the background of the dish he has served, which includes snails.
“It’s classic paella, and it’s actually an omen of good luck and fortune,” he says to the D’Amelio family, who reside in Norwalk, Connecticut.
“Liars,” Charli scoffs, with arms huffily crossed.
Dixie — who has 43.8 million followers of her own — taste tests the snail, then convulses, gags and runs outside to vomit in front of May. “I threw up; that was not good,” the 19-year-old says.
“That was a very dramatic scene,” mama Heidi replies.
Charli then asks her personal chef — who has been showcased on the Food Network and inducted into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame as a “Chef Extraordinaire” — if she could dine on “dino nuggets” instead.
Another groan-inducing scene features Charli whining that she hasn’t hit 100 million quickly enough. She had 99.5 million followers as of Wednesday — and is now down to 98.5 million as of Thursday night. She had been gaining followers at a rate of hundreds of thousands per day for her hyper-viewed TikTok dances prior to this drama.
“Ugh, I just wish I had more time because imagine if I hit 100 mil one year after hitting a mil,” Charli says.
“95 million not enough for you?” Charles — who has a TikTok following of 29 million — asks sarcastically.
“Well I was just like saying like, even numbers,” Charli responds with a shrug.
Commenters have flooded all of the recent videos on the D’Amelios’ accounts, and multiple influencers and high-profile creators on the platform have responded expressing criticism and disappointment with Charli and Dixie’s bratty behavior — and their parents’ nonchalance about the situation.
Charli has yet to respond to The Post’s request for comment about the backlash, but Dixie and father Marc — who is a conservative politician with a TikTok following of 8.3 million — have posted half-hearted explanation videos.
“Hey guys, if you are coming here to comment hate like this, maybe hold on one second and know the full story,” Dixie says in a TikTok she posted Thursday morning. “I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve had, so I would never in any way want to be taken as disrespectful, especially from an out-of-context 15-second clip. So basically, my team knows I throw up a lot. I could throw up at the smell, the thought or the taste of anything. So, when they saw the snails, they were like, ‘Oh, let’s get her and try to see if we can get a reaction out of her.’
“I love Chef [May] and I would never disrespect him in any way and maybe don’t judge someone’s personality over a 15-second video.”
“So Dixie, sometimes when you eat food you don’t like you puke, and we know that because we are her parents and we’ve seen this happen time and time again,” papa Marc adds in a video posted Tuesday. “She is a little dramatic, though.”
The bottom line, Dixie claims, is that her family is just the latest victim of dreaded cancel culture: “Disgusting,” she says in her video. “Stop trying to cancel my parents for calling me ‘dramatic.'”
By Thursday night, Charli was sobbing over the loss of 1 million followers — and pondering quitting the platform where she’s earned 7.7 billion “likes” — in an emotional Instagram Live video.
