Through multiple suspensions and never-ending uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Michigan high school football players didn’t take the chance to at least play a shortened season in 2020 for granted.
Now, players are being recognized for how they performed on the field as the Associated Press’s all-state teams are being released this week.
The Division 3-4 all-state team includes Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, first-team, second-team and honorable mention selections voted on by a panel of 11 media members from across the state.
The 8-player, Division 7-8 and Division 5-6 teams have already been released. The Division 1-2 team will be announced on Christmas Day.

Dewitt has been unstoppable this season and that’s in part because of the play by junior standout Tyler Holtz.
The signal caller is the leader of a Panther team that is 9-0 and has outscored its opponents 440-50 during the season.
Holtz’s command of one of the state’s most prolific offenses is the rest he was selected as the 2020 AP Division 3-4 Player of the Year.
In his first season as a varsity starting quarterback, Holtz has completed100-for-149 passes for 2,109 yards and an impressive 32 TDs to only 1 interception. He also rushed for 318 yards on 48 carries for an average of 6.6 yards per carry.
His play helped lead Dewitt to the state’s top ranking in Division 3 as well as conference and district championships. Holtz was also named first-team all-state by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association.

Moore is already considered one of the state’s top quarterback and he still has two more seasons remaining.
The sophomore standout has led Detroit King to a 6-3 record and a spot in the regional title game against Division 3 defending champion River Rouge.
Moore connected on 89-of-150 passes for 1,434 yards and 23 TDs and only 3 INTs. He already owns Division I offers from Michigan, Penn State, Indiana, Arizona State, Purdue and Michigan State

Martin led the Flint area with 1,403 yards and 20 touchdowns on 131 carries (10.7 yard average). The senior helped North Branch to its first-ever district title and a 9-0 record heading into the regional round of the postseason.

Hernandez rushed for 1,073 yards and 18 TDs for the Rams and was named MAC Bronze Division Most Valuable Player.

The senior tailback rushed for 1,206 yards and 15 touchdowns on 151 carries. He set the school record for rushing yards in a game with 343 against Otsego and is also the program’s all-time leading rusher.

Taylor was named the Ann Arbor-area Offensive Player of the Year after hauling in 37 receptions for 764 yards (20.4 per catch) and an area-leading 13 touchdowns. Taylor was second-team all-state last year as a defensive back.

Shinrock finished the year with 37 receptions for 781 yards (21.1 per catch) and 13 TDs. He also had a 95-yard kickoff return for the game-winning TD vs. Battle Creek Lakeview.

One of Holtz’s favorite targets, McIntosh caught 28 passes for 692 yards and 13 TDs in nine games for D3 top-ranked DeWitt. He was also named first-team all-state by MHSFCA. He also has 10 D-I offers.

The senior was the anchor on Detroit King’s offensive line and helped pave the way for a team that averaged 36.7 points per game. He will play at Pittsburgh next season.
Devonte Miles, River Rouge, Jr.
Miles recorded 12 tackles for loss for a River Rouge defense that allowed 7.7 points per game. The junior has multiple D-I offers from schools such as Michigan, Indiana, Cincinnati, Iowa State and Minnesota.
Dylan Beck, Milan, Sr.
The senior lineman was named the Ann Arbor-area Defensive Player of the Year after leading the area in tackles with 90. He also had 15 tackles for loss and was named all-conference, all-region and all-state by the MHSFCA.

Tiernan played on both lines for DCD. On defense he had 29 tackles, three sacks and four quarterback hurries. He was also named all-region and is signed to Northwestern.

Murray was a three-year starter and was named All-Saginaw Valley South first team. He helped Powers rush for 1,064 yards and will be a preferred walk-on at Michigan State.

The junior defensive back was all over the field for Marquette as he racked up 109 tackles and recovered five fumbles.

Davis is a four-time first-team selection and was one of the Flint area’s most dynamic players. The Central Michigan signee had 30 receptions for 548 yards and averaged 20.97 yards per carry while scoring 11 touchdowns.
Defensively, he had 20 tackles, one interception, one sack, and two tackles for losses. He also returned a punt 74 yards for a TD.
KICKER
Tommy Doman, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, Sr.
Doman made 7-of-9 field goals with a long of 53-yards and five of 44 yards or longer. He nailed all 13 extra point attempts and is signed to the University of Michigan.

Morgyn Muck, Fowlerville, Sr.
The senior punter landed seven of his 35 punts inside the 20-yard line and averaged 33.2 yards per punt.

Ferman went 1-8 in his first season but has won more than seven games in each of the last three seasons, including a 9-0 record this year.
The Broncos won their first district championship ever this season and won the Blue Water Area Conference title with a 6-0 record. They outscored opponents 389-76, scoring at least 47 points five times while pitching five shutouts.
Art Maisano, Madison Heights Lamphere
In his first year with Lamphere, Maisano led the Rams to an 8-1 record, a MAC Bronze title and a spot in the D4 district finals. Lamphere scored a program-record 338 points and allowed 78 points, which is the fewest since 1976.
The eight wins by the team were the most since 1984 and the two playoff victories were the first since 2009.
