'To All The Boys' Stars Reflect on Saying Goodbye to Beloved Franchise - Hollywood Reporter

Lana Condor and Noah Centineo, along with the rest of the film's cast, open up about their final days of filming and what's next for their characters.

Lana Condor and Noah Centineo are saying a final farewell “to all the boys” with the release of To All The Boys: Always and Forever.

The third and final installment of the rom-com trilogy, based on the YA novels by Jenny Han, dropped on Netflix on Friday, and the film not only officially wraps up Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky’s love story for fans but marks the end of a chapter for its breakout stars Condor and Centineo.

The two actors along with the TATB cast spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the film’s release to discuss the franchise’s whirlwind success, behind-the-scenes tidbits from the final film, and their emotional goodbyes to their beloved characters.

Condor and Centineo shot to stardom upon the release of the first film, 2018’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. The film went on to become a major hit for Netflix, something that Condor said was completely unexpected.

“We honestly made it as an indie,” the actress explains. “So we didn’t even know if anyone would see it or pick it up let alone have the reaction it had on people.”

Condor also said her newfound fame took some adjusting to: “It’s a very weird thing to watch your life change for the better and for the worse right before your very eyes in a very short period of time.”

As for saying goodbye to her character, Condor says it was extremely difficult, revealing that the final scene she shot did not make it into the film because she was too emotional.

“These movies have been such a huge part of my life for years,” said Condor, “and have been very integral to how I am today as a young woman. It almost feels like you’re saying goodbye to a part of yourself.”

Meanwhile, Centineo revealed that while saying goodbye to fan-favorite Peter Kavinsky will be difficult, it'll be the strong friendships he cultivated with the fellow castmembers, such as Ross Butler and Condor, that he’ll miss the most.

“You feel so comfortable working with [Condor]," said Centineo. "She gives so much, and I hope to continue working with actors that are as kind and as nurturing and giving as she is.”

The cast also shared some of their favorite moments from the trilogy, with the general consensus being that the scenes filmed in New York for the third film were among the highlights.

“We got to go to New York and experience all these iconic locations filming,” explained Madeleine Arthur, who plays Chris in the film. “Then, off-set, on the weekend we got to go to the Met and the High Line and we did a group workout and we just ate so much food and pizza and bagels.”

A portion of the third installment was also filmed on location in Korea, something that co-star Janel Parrish, who plays Margot, said was a very special moment for her and her on-camera sisters, Condor and Anna Cathcart.

“We went to Seoul Tower and actually got one of those little love locks and we wrote our names on them and wrote 'Seoul Sisters' and locked it there forever, and it was such a beautiful memory being able to shoot there and wrap there together.”

The cast also shared a look ahead, predicting where their characters could be 10 years from now, with Condor hoping Lara Jean’s natural gift for writing love letters lends itself to a career in publishing and Centineo hoping Peter takes his lacrosse talents professional.

To All The Boys: Always and Forever premieres on Netflix Friday, Feb. 12. Watch the video above for more on this interview.
