Seahawk Duo Headlines Preseason All-CAA Picks - UNCWsports.com

RICHMOND, Virginia – UNCW graduate student midfielder Jacob Evans and junior goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta have been recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association's nine head men's soccer coaches with major preseason awards.
 
Evans has been named co-recipient of the league's Preseason Midfielder of the Year, while Perrotta earned the CAA Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year award.
 
The duo headlines a group of five Seahawks receiving a spot on the Preseason All-CAA Team, which was revealed by CAA officials on Tuesday. Junior midfielder Colton Pleasants and graduate student defender Michael Hornsby also claimed Preseason All-CAA distinction, while junior defender Jaden Strumeier was an honorable mention pick.

The Seahawks were picked to finish second in the league's Preseason Order of Finish. James Madison, the three-time defending league champion, was selected to lead the CAA standings and earned seven first-place votes. UNCW earned one first-place vote, while Hofstra claimed the other first-place vote and was tabbed to finish third.
 
A two-time First-Team All-CAA selection, Evans netted two goals with an assist en route to being named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region First Team one year ago. The Chester, Cheshire, England, product started nine games for Head Coach Aidan Heaney and helped UNCW to a 2-0 victory over Campbell with a goal in the 74th minute.
 
In two seasons with the Seahawks, Evans has tallied four goals with five assists while starting 20-of-24 contests.
 
Perrotta, a two-time Second-Team All-CAA performer, ranked third in the circuit with a 0.96 goals against average and .783 save percentage. The Asuncion, Paraguay, native fashioned a CAA-best six shutouts and was a two-time selection as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week last season.
 
A two-year starter, Perrotta has authored a 17-6-4 record for the Seahawks, while compiling 14 shutouts and a 0.81 goals against average.
 
Pleasants earned Second-Team recognition on the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Team after posting a pair of game-winning markers while starting 9-of-10 games. The First-Team All-CAA midfielder led the Seahawks to 2-0 victories over UNCG and Campbell by netting the eventual game-winner in both contests.
 
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Pleasants has started 24-of-29 games in two seasons and has four goals with one assist to his credit.
 
Hornsby claimed a spot on the All-CAA Third Team in his inaugural season with the Seahawks last spring and guided a defensive unit that posted six shutouts in 10 games. The Biberach an der riss, Germany, native tallied an assist in the Seahawks' 2-0 victory over Elon on Mar. 13.

Strumeier was a Second-Team United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region and First-Team All-CAA pick after starting nine games during his sophomore campaign. The Morganville, N.J., native tallied the first goal of his college career at Coastal Carolina on Apr. 3.
 
In his two seasons with the Seahawks, Strumeier has tallied a goal with three assists while starting 10-of-24 games.
