SAN ANTONIO – UTSA baseball slugger Ian Bailey has been named All-Texas Collegiate League after helping spur the San Antonio Flying Chanclas to the league title. Get all the stats from UTSA's summer baseball league standouts in the latest UTSA baseball notebook.
Bailey, a native of San Antonio and a product of Stevens High School, had a prolific summer in the TCL, reaching base safely in 34 of 35 games. He batted .283 (36-for-127) with 35 runs, nine doubles, three triples, five homers and 31 RBI with a 27-29 walk-strikeout ratio.
He was joined on the championship squad by UTSA right-handed pitcher Luke Malone, with the pair helping team up on the Flying Chanclas to best the Victoria Generals, led by UTSA infielder Austin Ochoa and righty Reece Easterling, in the championship game.
SUMMER LEAGUE ROUND-UP

Summer: Earned All-TCL honors in the outfield … helped lead San Antonio to the TCL Championship … hit .283 (36-for-127) with 35 runs, nine doubles, three triples, five homers and 31 RBI … had a 27-29 walk-strikeout ratio … reached base safely in 34 of 35 games during the summer … had a five-RBI game on July 23 with a triple and homer … went for three hits in a win on July 30 with a homer and double … Had a 10-day period without games and cranked homers in his last game before the break and his first after … went for three hits with a homer and triple on July 8, driving in five runs.
Austin Brewer, R-Fr., RHP – MINK League – Jefferson City Renegades
Summer: Posted a 3-0 record and a 1.98 ERA in 11 games and three starts, earning a save in 31.2 innings, allowing only 20 hits and 10 walks, with 43 strikeouts … worked consecutive six-inning starts to finish his summer, including a win on July 18 where he allowed just a run on four hits … worked six innings with a summer-best seven strikeouts and two runs allowed in his summer finale … picked up a save in his first outing of the summer on June 2, fanning a pair in a shutout inning … earned his first win of the summer on June 16 with three shutout, one-hit innings.
John Chomko, So., RHP – California Collegiate League – Arroyo Seco Saints
Summer: Went 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 11 games and three starts during the summer in the California Collegiate League … worked 28.2 innings, allowing only 24 hits and seven walks, striking out 48 … seven of his 11 outings went without allowing a run … fanned nine over four shutout, two-hit innings on July 24 … had eight strikeouts in his third win of the year on July 30, allowing an earned run over five hits and a walk in five innings.
Reece Easterling, Sr., RHP – Texas Collegiate League – Victoria Generals
Summer: Worked in 10 starts during the summer for the Victoria Generals in the Texas Collegiate League … tossed 40.2 innings, allowing 50 hits and 24 walks, striking out 38 … tossed five shutout innings in his summer debut on June 2, allowing just three hits and a walk … worked a season-long 5.2 innings on July 15, allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts.
Daniel Garza, So., RHP – California Collegiate League – Walnut Creek Crawdads
Summer: Had a strong summer in the California Collegiate League … worked in eight games with four starts, earning a 2-0 record and a 3.22 ERA, saving one game … tossed 30.2 innings, allowing only 27 hits and six walks, striking out 37 … finished the summer strong with at least five-inning starts in each of his final three outings … worked six one-run innings with eight strikeouts in his finale on July 30 … tossed a summer-high seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts over four hits allowed on July 2 for his first win of the season … earned a save in his first outing of the summer, working two shutout innings with three strikeouts on June 10.

Summer: Helped led the San Antonio Flying Chanclas to the Texas Collegiate League Championship … worked in nine games with eight starts, posting a 4-1 record and a 2.89 ERA … hurled 46.2 innings, allowing 46 hits and 10 walks, striking out 35 … worked seven strong innings on Aug. 3 in his final start of the year, allowing two earned runs … tossed six innings in a win on July 28 … tossed a summer-long 7.2 innings with a run allowed on July 15 … earned the win on July 8 with five innings of one-run pitching … in his summer debut, worked six shutout innings with six strikeouts on July 1.
Simon Miller, So., RHP – Texas Collegiate League – Brazos Valley Bombers
Summer: Went 1-2 with a 3.92 ERA over seven starts in the Texas Collegiate League … tossed 18.1 innings, allowing 14 hits and walking 16, striking out 13 … worked a summer-long five innings without allowing an earned run on July 20.
Austin Ochoa, So., INF – Texas Collegiate League – Victoria Generals
Summer: Helped lead Victoria to a runner-up finish in the Texas Collegiate League … hit .246 (32-for-130) with 17 runs, four doubles, one homer and 12 RBI in 37 games … had a 12-21 walk-strikeout ratio … stole six bases … also worked a perfect inning on the mound with two strikeouts … went 2-for-4 with two steals in the TCL Semifinals on Aug. 5 … cranked his homer in a two-hit effort on July 30, driving in three runs.
Chris Shull, So., RHP/OF – Texas Collegiate League – Brazos Valley Bombers
Summer: Hit .244 (10-for-41) with a double and six RBI … had a 3-15 walk-strikeout ratio and stole three bases … worked in eight games in relief with an 0-1 record and a 4.29 ERA … tossed 14.2 innings, allowing nine hits and 11 walks, striking out 16 … worked a summer-high 3.1 shutout innings on July 27 vs. San Antonio, allowing just a hit … worked three innings on June 25 … had a three-hit, three-RBI game on June 17.
Kyle Sonduck, So., RHP – California Collegiate League – Arroyo Seco Saints
Summer: Teamed with John Chomko on the Saints in the CCL … had a 2-1 record and a 2.03 ERA in 11 games with a save … worked 31 innings, allowing just 19 hits and three walks, striking out 48 … worked a summer-high 6.2 innings in relief on July 28, striking out eight … eight of his first nine appearances were scoreless outings … worked 3.1 innings in his summer debut with a hit and walk allowed, fanning four … struck out five over three shutout innings on July 6 … fanned four in three one-hit innings on July 15.
Jay Ward, Jr., LHP – Texas Collegiate League – Acadiana Cane Cutters
Summer: Appeared in 13 games in relief for the Cane Cutters in the TCL … went 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA and a save … tossed 25.2 innings, allowing 18 hits and 11 walks, striking out 28 … made summer debut with 2.1 shutout innings in relief on June 1 at San Antonio … worked two shutout innings on June 3 … tossed consecutive three-inning shutout relief outings on June 23 and June 27 … earned his first win on June 30 with two shutout innings, allowing one hit … worked 2.2 innings without allowing a hit on July 29 to earn the win.
