Women's Tennis Places Three on ASUN All-Decade Team - FGCU Athletics

ATLANTA – Two former Eagles and one present student-athlete found themselves on the conference's All-Decade squad as the league announced its list Monday afternoon.

Over the past decade, FGCU has captured two regular-season ASUN titles, going back-to-back in 2017-2018, appearing in the championship final five times. Since the arrival of head coach Courtney Vernon in 2013, the Eagles have claimed nearly 80 wins, posting a 32-8 conference record.

"Julia [Ascua], Maja [Ornberg] and Breana [Stampfli] have all been tremendous ambassadors for our program," said coach Vernon. "This honor bestowed upon them is a testament of their hard work."

Julia Ascua (2016-19) | Buenos Aires, Argentina
Ascua is a three-time ASUN First Team and All-Academic selection as she was dubbed the Scholar Athlete of the Year in her senior season. During the course of her four years, the Argentina native collected over 60 wins in singles and doubles play, helping the Eagles reach the ASUN Championship final in three of the four seasons.

Maja Ornberg (2017-pres.) | Kil, Sweden
Since first stepping foot on campus in the Fall of 2016, Ornberg has been the Eagles' No. 1 singles court player as well as handling the top doubles spot. She was named the conference's Freshman of the Year in 2017 and followed it up being named the ASUN Player of the Year – first recipient of such honor in the program's history. Ornberg has landed a spot on the First Team in three of her four seasons, while making the All-Academic squad in 2019. Back in May, the Sweden native was named an ASUN Winner for Life.

Breana Stampfli (2014-17) | Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago
Stampfli made an immediate impact to the FGCU lineup in her first season as she was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year, turning in also a Second Team nod. Over the course of the next three seasons, she was dubbed an ASUN First Team honoree, making three-straight finals appearances from 2015-2017.
