Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may have formally dissolved their UK Charity, SussexRoyal, but that doesn’t mean the remaining funds aren’t being put to good use. On July 31, Migrateful—a UK-based foundation that offers cooking classes led by led by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants—announced on Twitter that The Royal Foundation had donated £8,000 (roughly $10,000) on behalf of the Duchess of Sussex. “We are immensely grateful for this donation which will go towards supporting the Migrateful mission,” they wrote. According to Migrateful's website, the foundation's mission is to “empower and celebrate refugees and vulnerable migrants on their journey to integration, by supporting them to run their own cookery classes.”

This isn’t the first time the Duchess has worked with a culinary-based charity, however. Cooking is one of her greatest passions, and she's found ways to weave that into her charitable work since she first joined the royal family. In 2018, Meghan's first solo charity project as the Duchess of Sussex involved writing the forward for a cookbook called Together, which raised funds for the Hubb Community Kitchen. Food as it relates to a greater sense of community is a concept Meghan holds close to her heart, noting in that “A home cooked meal from one neighbor to another, when they need it most, is what community is all about.”

The Royal Foundation was started by Prince Harry and Prince William in 2009, but last summer Prince Harry announced that he and Meghan would split off from the charity to start their own, called SussexRoyal. This all changed yet again, once Harry and Meghan made the decision to step back from royal duties all together, agreeing to stop using “royal” in their branding. The couple has already begun developing their new nonprofit organization, Archewell, and in the meantime have shown their commitment to making every cent from their first foundation count.

As for the future of Archewell, the coronavirus pandemic has lead Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to postpone their launch date until it feels safe enough to do so. “Sources said the couple were responding to current affairs, redirecting their efforts to the Black Lives Matter cause and the wider repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic,” The Telegraph reported in June.
