Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency Foundation has donated $47,500 to charity through their 9th Annual All Charity Golf Tournament at Burlington Country Club.

Victor Mitchell, Founder of YPLAY, stated, “When our organization first heard about receiving this donation I was ecstatic, I couldn’t help but to think about all the different ways we can use this donation to further our reach.” Mitchell continued, “The contributions made to YPLAY will be utilized to employ 8 to 10 part time staff to increase program operations. These individuals will assist in program coordination and after school programming and administering YPLAY programs.”

Girls on the Run Executive Director, Rachel Desautels, shared her reaction to finding out they won $10,000, “I was in shock! The best kind of shock there is!” Desautels added, “This generous donation will impact the sense of hope for our organization to remain sustainable.  I believe in our program with my entire being and I can confidently speak on behalf of our staff and board when I say this gift will energize us from head to toe to continue on with our work and allow us to fulfill our mission for our girls to be joyful, healthy and confident.”

Both Mitchell and Desautels shared stories of the impact COVID-19 has had on their organizations, something foundation Director, Melissa Cushing, says was a major factor in deciding to continue with this year’s tournament, “We thought carefully about whether or not we should proceed with this year’s tournament and ultimately decided, with Burlington Country Club onboard, that we were going to do whatever we could to plan a safe tournament for all the players and charities involved.” Cushing continued, “We knew it meant more work, sometimes planning things and shifting gears when rules and regulations changed, but with nearly $50,000 being donated to local charities at a time they need it most was well worth the effort.”

In addition to support by The Vermont Agency Foundation, this year’s event sponsor was Acabay Inc. Additional support was provided by SAC, Inc., SAGE Scholars, Inc., WCAX, H.E. Shaw Co. Inc., Dave Eaton Photography, The Essex Agency, Inc., and Co-Operative Insurance Companies.

The 2021 All Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, August 23rd at the Burlington Country Club. Visit The Vermont Agency Foundation's Facebook Page for photographs from the event.

About YPLAY

YPLAY seeks to enrich the lives of at-risk youth in the Burlington community, targeting boys and girls ages 6 through 18. At YPLAY, we are aiming to instill the values of cooperation, teamwork, perseverance, commitment, and good sportsmanship. YPLAY will provide youth with the chance to learn lifetime sports and social skills through positive learning and experiences. They will learn that they have the power to affect outcomes through attitude and effort. As a community it is our responsibility to build young people’s self-esteem, self-confidence, sense of personal responsibility, and respect for others through recreational activities.

About Girls on the Run

At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. Lesson topics include positive self-talk, gossip, gratitude, friendship and more. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
