Paige Bueckers of the UConn Huskies was the leading vote-getter for the AP All-America First Team and was joined by Dana Evans of the Louisville Cardinals, Aliyah Boston of the South Carolina Gamecocks, Rhyne Howard of the Kentucky Wildcats and NaLyssa Smith of the Baylor Lady Bears, the AP announced on Wednesday.
All but two of the 30 first place votes were awarded to Bueckers, who became the third freshman to ever make the First Team. The others are Courtney Paris (Oklahoma Sooners) and Maya Moore (UConn).
Bueckers is averaging 19.7 points, 6.1 assists and 2.3 steals for the No. 1 team in the AP rankings and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. She made clutch 3-pointers to help put away the No. 13 Tennessee Lady Volunteers and No. 6 Gamecocks during the regular season and was the Most Outstanding Player of the Big East Tournament, which UConn won.
Evans is averaging 20 points and 4.2 assists per game for a No. 2 seed in Louisville and has been super clutch this year as well. Boston is averaging a double-double with 13.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game for No. 1 seed South Carolina. She adds 2.8 blocks. Howard has stuffed the stat sheet for No. 4 seed Kentucky with 20.7 points, 7.3 boards, 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Smith has been good for 18.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for No. 2 seed Baylor.
