To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Owens graduated from Middle Tennessee in the spring with a 3.9 GPA in Healthcare Administration program and will begin pursuing his master's degree in strategic leadership during his final season of eligibility.
Saulo joined Owens as an MTSU graduate at the end of the spring semester, completing his degree in Leisure, Sport and Tourism Studies with a 3.3 GPA.
The pair were also stalwarts on the course for the Blue Raiders, ranking as two of the Top 3 players on the team by stroke average, each at under 74 strokes per round.
"Congratulations to Tanner and Ilari for being named as GCAA All-American Scholars," Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "Both did a fantastic job in the classroom last year and were able to graduate from MTSU. We look forward to having Tanner back this year as he has enrolled in graduate school and wish Ilari the best as he turns professional and starts his golf career."
Of the 570 Division I honorees announced, Owens and Saulo are two of 32 that competed in Conference USA. Owens is a repeat selection after being named to the list in 2019 while the Blue Raiders now boast a total of 15 GCAA All-American Scholars since 2002.
