National Civic League Recognizes Communities Building Equity and Resilience
Evanston has been named a finalist for the National Civic League’s annual All-America City Awards, which recognizes communities that leverage civic engagement, collaboration, inclusiveness and innovation to successfully address local issues. This year’s theme is “Building Equitable and Resilient Communities.”
Evanston is one of 20 communities to be named as a 2021 finalist, joining cities such as Spokane, WA; Dallas, TX; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Richmond, Va.; and Englewood, Col. Finalist communities represent 15 states, and range in size from 9,000 residents to more than 1.2 million.
“This year’s finalist communities have managed the compounding difficulties of the past year, all while building equity and resilience,” said National Civic League President Doug Linkhart. “Their accomplishments are a testament to what can be achieved when government, residents, businesses and other stakeholders collaborate.”
Finalist communities will compete this June to be recognized as one of 10 All-America Cities for 2021. Each community will gather a team of residents, nonprofit leaders, business representatives, government officials and young people to participate in a virtual presentation and attend workshops and roundtables.
Since 1949, the National Civic League has recognized and celebrated the best in American civic innovation with the prestigious All-America City Award. The Award, bestowed yearly on 10 communities (more than 500 in all) recognizes the work of communities in using inclusive civic engagement to address critical issues and create stronger connections among residents, businesses and nonprofit and government leaders.
