"I am so proud of our team's academic excellence this past year, as recognized by the NCAA and USILA," said head coach Ryan Martin. "Despite a pandemic that brought on many online classes and obstacles, our student-athletes showed determination to finish with the highest GPA during my time here at Hartford."Hartford earned the prestigious honor by going above and beyond the USILA's minimum GPA requirement after combining for a 3.31 mark during the 2020-21 academic year. The GPA is the highest it has been since Martin joined the team's coaching staff as an assistant in 2015 and was promoted to head coach in 2017.
The Hawks were one of 33 Division I teams in the nation — and one of three America East programs — to receive All-Academic Team honors. Conference mates Binghamton and UMass Lowell were also recognized by the organization for their academic success.
Among Hartford's 17 Division I programs, the men's lacrosse team landed a department-best 34 members on the America East Academic Honor Roll in 2020-21, which recognizes student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Most impressively, 27 of those student-athletes were elevated to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for achieving a minimum GPA of 3.5.
The men's lacrosse team contributed to the department's 3.50 GPA in the 2020-21 academic year. Finishing with the second-best GPA in the America East behind New Hampshire, Hartford has ranked top-two in the conference in each of the past nine years.
