K-State Track and Field Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors - K-StateSports.com

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams earned All-Academic team recognition from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the fifth consecutive year, as the organization released its annual academic honors on Thursday (July 16).

In addition to the team recognitions, 14 Wildcat student-athletes (five men and nine women) were lauded for individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, including a pair notching perfect 4.0 GPAs in sophomore runner Alex Ferguson and senior high jumper Taylor Smith.

The Wildcat men's and women's teams were among 463 Division I teams (264 women's teams and 199 men's teams) honored for academic excellence, which requires a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during the 2018-19 season. The women's team earned a 3.59 GPA, while the men's team earned a 3.265 GPA.

Both squads have been a regular honoree on the USTFCCCA list, as the women's team earned the accolade for the 15th time, including the 10th consecutive season, while the men's team was selected for the eighth time, including the fifth consecutive season.

The men's award winners included freshman Kyle Alcine, senior Aaron Booth, junior Travis Hodge and junior Tejaswain Shankar and Smith. The women's honorees included sophomore Vitoria Alves, senior Helene Ingvaldsen, junior Kassidy Johnson, senior Shanae McKenzie, freshman Maddie Righter, senior Konstantina Romaiou, senior Lauren Taubert, junior Shaelyn Ward and Ferguson.

Those adding on to their total of USTFCCCA All-Academic honors featured Taubert, Ingvaldsen and Romaiou, who all earned their fourth-career distinction, while Ward took home her third-career selection. Those grabbing their second-career honor included Booth, Ferguson and Johnson.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must earn a 3.25 GPA and met at least athletic standard, which includes finishing the indoor regular season ranked in the national top-96 in an individual event or ranking in the national top-48 in an indoor relay event.

The trio of Booth, Taubert and Shankar rounded out the summer for USTFCCCA awards, as those three locked up All-American honors back on May 26, along teammates Edgaras Benkunskas, Taishia Pryce and Ariel Okorie.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, K-State ended the 2019-20 season at the Big 12 Indoor Championship in Ames, Iowa. The Wildcats ended their two-day competition at the Lied Recreation Center with three individual champions and 26-podium performances.
