Graduate student shortstop Summer Burgess was named to the league's First Team after posting a .311 batting average with a team-high 29 runs scored and 11 doubles while also tying for the team-lead in triples (3) and stolen bases (14).
Sophomore center fielder Kelci Hill was listed on C-USA's Second Team and Freshman Team due to her team-high .375 batting average and 57 hits. Hill also led the team with a .507 slugging percentage and .408 on base percentage. She's also the only Blue Raider with more than 20 runs scored and runs batted in (28 runs, 21 RBIs).
Hill was eligible for the Freshman Team this season because no postseason awards were given out in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season.
Both Burgess and Hill earned C-USA Hitter of the Week awards this season. MT's leadoff hitter and fifth year Blue Raider won the honor on March 8 after a stellar weekend at The Spring Games, while Hill earned her weekly award on April 12 after dominating at the plate against Marshall.
Burgess became the program's all-time leader in hits, games played and games started during the 2021 season, and she was joined in the record book updates by Hill, who is currently tied for a program record five sacrifice flies this season.
All-C-USA Second Team and Freshman Team honors are the first postseason awards of Hill's young career, while Burgess is putting a bow on a phenomenal career as a Blue Raider with Tuesday's announcement of First Team honors. Burgess was previously on the All-Freshman Team in 2017, Second Team in 2018 and First Team in 2019. She was also a member of the All-Tournament Team in 2018 when the Blue Raiders won their first C-USA Championship.
Burgess, Hill and the Blue Raiders are looking for their second league title this week as they take the field in Bowling Green, Kentucky and open with UTSA on Wednesday at 12 p.m. CT.
