Men's Swimming & Diving Lands Three AE All-Academic Selections - Binghamton University Athletics

VESTAL, N.Y. – Seniors David Walters and Erik Temple as well as junior Ryan Board have been named to the 2021 America East Men's Swimming & Diving All-Academic Team. The Bearcat trio was honored for the combination of their academic and athletic accomplishments.

To be eligible for an America All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have sophomore athletic eligibility, attain a 3.30 minimum grade-point average and be a contributor on their team. The squad is voted on by a committee made up of America East student-athlete support and athletic communications administrators as well as faculty athletic representatives.  

Walters, who swept both the one- and three-meter diving events at the America East Championships and was named the conference's Most Outstanding Men's Diver, was named to the All-Academic Team for the third straight year. He is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society and was named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Walters is just the third person in program history to be named to the America East All-Academic Team three times during their career – joining Brenno Varanda (2007-09) and Ross Bernstein (2018-20).

Temple makes the All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year. He was a top-three finisher in both the one- and three-meter diving events at the America East Championships this season. He too is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society and was named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Board is also a repeat selection on the All-Academic Team. At the America East Championship Meet, he won the 100 breaststroke title for the second year in a row and was third in the 200 breaststroke. He is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society and was named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll in both 2019 and 2020.

"Erik, David, and Ryan lead the charge for our program of competing at a high level as well as being top student-athletes in the classroom," head coach Jerry Cummiskey said. "Our team does an amazing job balancing the challenging course load here at Binghamton with what it takes to be a successful swimmer or diver. We are very proud of all they have achieved in the pool, on the boards, and in the classroom."

The were 10 total selections on the America East Men's All-Academic Team. Binghamton tied UMBC with a conference-best three honorees.

Since 2006, Binghamton has posted 35 America East Men's All-Academic selections.
