Gonzalez Gains All-America Status - Mean Green Sports

NEW ORLEANS – Michael Gonzalez of North Texas track and field earned All-America honorable mention for the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Gonzalez becomes the seventh Mean Green to garner All-America honors and the first UNT pole vaulter. 

Student-athletes earned First-Team All-America status by finishing among the top-8 of their events – including as a member of a relay – at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Second-Team All-America honors went to those student-athletes who finished between ninth and 16th place.

Honorable mention went to those student-athletes who finished 17th through 24th in their respective events at Hayward Field.

North Texas track and field All-Americans:
2021 – Michael Gonzalez, pole vault
2014 – Clinton Collins, 400m
2013 – Shahaf Bareni, high jump
2012 – Steven White, 400m hurdles
2006 – Brandi Stanfield – triple jump
2001 – Detrion Woodson – 100m
1982 – Donna Thomas, long jump
