Colts well-represented on Class AA all-state squad - The Inter-Mountain

CHARLESTON — After advancing to the Region II championship series this season, Philip Barbour is well-represented on the Class AA all-state team, released today by the West Virginia Sports Writer’s Association.

The Colts, who finished with a 19-11 record, placed infielder Nick Hamrick on the first team, Alex Wilson as one of the utility players on the second team and Cody Cooper and Alfred Isch on the honorable-mention list.

Hamrick and Wilson were both seniors, while Cooper a junior and Isch a sophomore.

Hamrick batted .408 with 31 RBIs and 36 runs scored, while Wilson hit .420 with 26 RBIs and one homer.

Logan, which won its seventh baseball championship and its first since 2008, has Cardinal Conference player of the year Dawson Maynard, one of just two sophomores on the first team, named as a utility player, along with junior outfielder Korbin Bostic.

Senior Alex Wilson earned a spot as a utility player on the Class AA all-state second team for Philip Barbour, which advanced to the regional finals this season.

Maynard captains the first team after his first high school season saw him finish the season hitting .402 for the state champions with 12 doubles, three triples, a home run and 28 RBIs and he was 5-1 on the mound with a 1.10 ERA and 55 strikeouts.

Runner-up North Marion placed Jace Rinehart as one of the utility players.

Independence, which spent a majority of the season at No. 1 in Class AA and was top seed in the state tournament, places three players on the first team in utility player Caleb Basham, outfielder Atticus Goodson and infielder Michael McKinney.

State runner-up Herbert Hoover is represented by Infielder Matthew Toops.

Other infielders include hard-hitting senior Xavier Lopez of Robert C. Byrd and junior Brayden Arcuri of Lincoln.

Members of the four-man first-team pitching staff are Sissonville’s Collin Cottrell, East Fairmont’s Cole Peschl, Point Pleasant’s Kyelar Morrow and Bluefield’s Carson Deeb.

The first-team catchers are Shady Spring’s Parker Redden and Point Pleasant’s Joel Beattie.

Joining Goodson and Bostic in the outfield is Oak Glen’s Hunter Patterson.

The other utility spot goes to Winfield senior Peyton Stover.

The captain of the second team is senior catcher Brady Whitaker of Frankfort.
