Pitt's Noel Leads All-ACC Academic Men's Soccer Team - The ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. (TheACC.com) – Pitt sophomore midfielder Valentin Noel was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and heads up the All-ACC Academic Men’s Soccer Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.

Noel is Pitt’s first ACC Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree since the award was established in 2007.

A native of Niort, France, Noel was named a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American after finishing second in the nation in goals (14) and third in points (30), leading the ACC in both categories. He was one of three finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is presented to the top player in college soccer.

Noel is majoring in finance and earned Dean’s List status during both semesters this school year. He was tabbed the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and named First-Team All-ACC as he led the Panthers to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA College Cup during the 2020 season. Pitt finished the season with a school-record 16 wins in posting a 16-4 record (9-1 in conference play) as well as a No. 3 national ranking.

All 12 ACC men’s soccer programs had at least one player honored. Clemson and Duke led all schools with seven selections. Duke goalkeeper Will Pulisic was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in his career. Clemson’s Charlie Asensio and Duke’s Matthias Frick earned All-ACC Academic Team honors for the third time.

The All-ACC Academic Team features four student-athletes who were selected in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft: George Asomani (NC State), Aiden McFadden (Notre Dame), Kristo Strickler (Virginia Tech) and Andrew Pannenberg (Wake Forest). In addition, Wake Forest’s Isaiah Parente was chosen to the All-ACC Academic Team for the second time; he signed an MLS Homegrown Contract to join the Columbus Crew in January.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
