Angels news: All-Star Game moved, David Fletcher’s extension, fans back - Halos Heaven

While wondering where the 2021 All-Star Game might be now that Major League Baseball announced Friday it wouldn’t be in Atlanta, here are some Saturday morning Los Angeles Angels links.

News & notes

In Fabian Ardaya’s profile of the newly-extended David Fletcher at The Athletic, he recalls Mike Gallego telling then-GM Billy Eppler about Fletcher in 2017, “You really don’t have to look too far, because we got your future second baseman standing right here in Double A.”

Dan Szymborski at FanGraphs analyzed the Fletcher contract: “Fletcher’s lack of power likely keeps him out of superstar territory, but he should be a solid starter for a long time for the Angels, who have struggled mightily to find players like that.”

Jeff Fletcher at the Orange County Register has more on Ty Buttrey getting placed on the restricted list.

Dylan Hernandez at the Los Angeles Times wrote about Angels fans enjoying their return to the park.

Just over 28 percent (256 of 906) major league players on active rosters, injured lists, restricted lists, and paternity lists to open the season were born outside the United States. That includes 10 Angels — José Quintana (Colombia), José Iglesias and Raisel Iglesias (Cuba), and Juan Lagares, Felix Peña, and Albert Pujols (Dominican Republic), Shohei Ohtani (Japan), Alex Claudio (Puerto Rico), Franklin Barreto and Junior Guerra (Venezuela).
