The honors, announced Thursday, were determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Wake Forest’s Henri Squire was named the Freshman of the Year, and Virginia’s Andres Pedroso was selected as the Coach of the Year.
Söderlund, currently ranked sixth in the nation, helped the Cavaliers claim the 2021 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship. The graduate student from Stockholm, Sweden, is 12-2 in dual matches on the year, with a 7-1 record against all ranked opponents, including a 3-1 mark against top-25 adversaries. He collected both ACC Player of the Week and Doubles Team of the Week honors this season.
A rookie from Düsseldorf, Germany, Squire compiled a 15-6 dual match record. He boasts an 8-5 mark against ranked opponents and helped Wake Forest to the No. 2 seed at the ACC Championships. Squire is currently ranked the No. 15 singles player in the country. He was a two-time ACC Player of the Week this season and was also an ACC Doubles Team of the Week honoree.
Pedroso guided Virginia to its first ACC Championship under his watch, and the program’s 13th overall. The Cavaliers are 21-2 on the year, including a 12-0 record in ACC regular-season play. This season, Virginia has earned seven wins against teams currently ranked among the ITA’s top 25.
