BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Western Carolina junior outside hitter Merry Gebel was named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Team, it was announced Saturday. The team was unveiled following the championship match as Samford swept Mercer, 3-0.
In Friday's semifinal loss to No. 2 seed Mercer, Gebel posted her 12th double-double of the season with a match-best 22 kills and 13 digs. The Wildwood, Mo. native hit .345 in the match and recorded seven of her 22 kills in the third set. Gebel's 22 kills were the most by an individual during the tournament. Gebel was a first-team All-SoCon selection for the 2021 season.
Joining Gebel on the all-tournament team were Samford's Sinclaire Green, Emily Naubert and tournament Most Outstanding Player Lauren Deaton, as well as Mercer's Annie Karle and Megan Smith, and Wofford's Riley Coonan.
