Insani Represents Southeastern on All-Southland Conference Teams - Southeastern Lions Athletics

HAMMOND, La. – After leading the Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team in singles victories, Lion sophomore Putri Insani was named to the 2020-21 All-Southland Conference Women's Tennis Teams presented by Ready Nutrition, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Insani, a native of Jakarta, Indonesia, was a third-team selection at the No. 1 singles spot. Her selection marked her second all-conference notice of her career, as she was an honorable mention choice as a freshman.

"Putri is very deserving of this honor and puts in the work to be a standout performer for us on the court," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes commented. "Now as she moves forward in her career and becomes an upperclassman, we expect her to take more of a leadership role for us off the court."

Insani finished the season with a 12-5 singles record this spring, including a 7-3 mark in Southland Conference matches. Insani had a nine-match singles winning streak during the spring and had wins over league foes from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, New Orleans, Lamar, Northwestern State, Central Arkansas, Nicholls and McNeese.

Insani also was 5-2 in nonconference singles matches. Her nonconference play was highlighted by a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Tulane's M.C. Meredith.

Sam Houston's Sahaja Yamalapalli was selected as the Player of the Year. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Emma Aucagne earned Freshman of the Year honors. Southland co-regular season champion New Orleans took home the other individual honors with Lina Johnhold (Newcomer of the Year) and Burzis Kanga (Coach of the Year) claiming hardware.

The All-Southland Conference teams and individual superlative award winners were selected by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Voters were not allowed to vote for their institution's student-athletes or coaches.
