The Denver Broncos might not have added a rookie quarterback or Aaron Rodgers to the roster yet, but they did complete their goal of finding competition for Drew Lock, in the form of Teddy Bridgewater.
Bridgewater was interviewed by the Broncos’ in-house media team on Tuesday, and he seemed excited for the fresh opportunity with this loaded roster.
“I was very excited,” Bridgewater said about finding out he had been traded to Denver. “Just an oppotunity to come in. And this is a great football team, they have great pieces here and I just have the opportunity to come in and just fit right in with those guys.”
Another point Bridgewater touched on was his prior relationship with George Paton, who was a part of the Minnesota Vikings’ front office when they selected him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
“I saw George [Paton],” Bridgewater said. “He was walking. He’s still cool. He was a cool guy when I was in Minnesota, he’s still cool now that we’re in Denver and I’m just looking forward to just working here.”
Bridgewater also appears to understand that his role is to come in and compete with Lock for the starting job, which is a role he seems more than ready for.
“Competition makes us all better, as human beings,” Bridgewater said. “You look back and you realize, you formed relationships and bonds with different guys through competition, and you learn a lot about the guy you’re competing against and you gotta compete and win.”
One thing is for sure, Bridgewater v. Lock should be a more entertaining quarterback battle than those we’ve seen in years past.
