Richmond, Va. - The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) have announced that the Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving teams have earned Scholar All-America honors for their efforts in the classroom last semester. The teams earned the honor after posting GPAs of 3.45 and 3.51 respectively
"Coach Potsklan didn't let a difficult season stand in the way of success," noted CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart. "These are some of the best ambassadors of Fordham and Athletic Director Kull, Father McShane, and Dr. Patricio Meneses (Faculty Athletic Representative) can and should be proud of these 44 men & women."
In total, 721 programs from 426 institutions earned the honor. CSCAA will name its individual Scholar All-America team next week.
Fordham joined Davidson, George Mason, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure, and Saint Louis as Atlantic 10 schools to have both their men's and women's teams honored. The women's teams from Duquesne and Richmond were the other Atlantic 10 teams listed.
"Each year we strive to be our best, both in the pool and in the classroom," said Potsklan. "To be honored each semester as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team is an honor and evidence to the hard work and dedication by the student-athletes and the academic advisors."
Instituted during the 2003-04 academic year, the Scholar All-American Team award is presented to a team competing at the NCAA, NAIA, or junior college levels, and maintains a GPA of a 3.0 or better. The GPA includes all athletes who competed in any competition during the course of the season.
Individual Scholar All-America selections will be announced next week.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America. The CSCAA is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
