Spider Hockey Claims Three VaSID All-State Honors - RIchmond Spiders Athletic

RICHMOND, Va. – Three University of Richmond field hockey student-athletes collected Virginia Association of Sports Information Directors All-State honors, the organization announced Tuesday.
 
Junior Olivia Frazier (Cary, N.C.) was named to the First Team, while fellow junior Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands) and sophomore Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) picked up Second Team accolades.
 
Frazier, a spring 2021 First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, led the Spiders (4-3) with 13 total points, on four goals and six assists, starting in all seven games this season. She tallied a hat trick and one assist for a career-high seven points in the Spiders 9-0 win against Saint Louis, and earned A-10 Weekly honors for her efforts. She picked up her other goal in the road victory at Saint Louis. Frazier's 0.86 assist per game average ranks second in the nation, while her 2.00 points per game average is 12th nationally. She is also a three-time ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree.
 
Bongers, collecting spring 2021 First Team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Academic Team honors, led the Spiders (4-3) in goals scored with six and second in total points, 12, with an assist, in only six total games this spring season. She had two goals in wins home against Saint Louis and Davidson. Bongers collected A-10 Weekly honors for her two-goal game against Davidson. Bongers paces the A-10 with a 1.00 goals per game average and ranks 10th in the nation. She is tenth in the nation and tops the A-10 with a 2.17 points per game average. She is also a three-time ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree.
 
Started in all seven contests for the Spiders as a sophomore, Latta has made 26 saves in 59 shots faced this season for a .812 save percentage, which ranks eighth in the nation. She has only allowed six goals for a 0.91 goal against average, good for tenth nationally. She was named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, (Mar. 23 & April 19). For the first, she tallied a career-high five saves and picked up the shutout victory against Saint Louis for her first career win. For her second weekly award, she tallied one save in the three shots she faced to keep Davidson scoreless for her 45 minutes of action. Latta was also named to the spring 2021 Second Team All-Atlantic 10.
