Junior Cornerback Anthony Adams is one of the top players in the Big Sky Conference.

Portland State defensive back Anthony Adams has been named to the preseason All-Big Sky Conference team as voted on by league media. Adams, a junior from Newberg, OR, was a consensus first team All-American in 2019 - the Vikings last season of play.
Adams is one of 30 players named to the All-Big Sky preseason team. The honor comes a week after being named the top returning defensive back in the nation at the FCS level by Hero Sports.
In 2019, Adams led the nation in passes defended. His five interceptions and 19 pass breakups led the Big Sky Conference in each category. Adams ranked 13th in the nation in interceptions. He also had 56 tackles, two tackles for loss and blocked a kick on special teams. Adams broke the Portland State school record for pass breakups in a season (previously 15).
The 6-foot, 185-pounder was named first team All-American by Associated Press, STATS, Walter Camp and Athlon Sports. A Buck Buchanan Award finalist, he placed 12th in balloting for the National Defensive Player of the Year.
In 2020 Adams was again a preseason All-Big Sky and All-American choice. However, the pandemic wiped away the fall season. In the Vikings' lone game of this past spring against Montana, Adams had nine tackles, including one for loss.
Adams now has 26 PBUs in 24 career games on the Park Blocks and already ranks sixth all-time. He is on pace to break the school career record (33). Overall, he has 113 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, 26 pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
Weber State, which has won at least a share of the Big Sky Championship in each of the last four years, was picked at the top once again. The Wildcats were followed in order by Montana, Eastern Washington and Montana State.
Portland State, which has not played a full season since 2019, was picked 10th of 13 teams in each poll. In the Vikings last full season, they tied for sixth with UC Davis and Idaho.
The 2021 season begins on Aug. 6 for PSU as it begins practice on Stott Community Field. The season opener is Sept. 4 at Hawai'i.
