Cone, Weber Named Academic All-Americans - George Washington University - Official Athletic Site

AUSTIN, Texas - Two of GW softball's all-time greats added to their impressive legacies with Jenna Cone and Faith Weber being named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans on Thursday.

Both Buff and Blue standouts landed on the national organization's Academic All-America Second Team in recognition of their academic success and on-field excellence.

A 2021 NFCA All-American and two-time A-10 Player of the Year, Cone was one of 10 repeat selections on the list after being a Third-Team selection in 2020, while Weber was honored for the first time following a fantastic final season in Buff and Blue in which she earned All-Conference and All-Region honors.

It's the second straight year that GW has had multiple honorees on the exclusive list, and the program is among a group of six nationally to hold that distinction this season, joined by Power Five stalwarts Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky and Oklahoma State.

Cone and Weber were honored after closing out distinguished collegiate careers in style during a historic spring. After having their senior season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they opted to return as graduate students, along with classmate Jessica Linquist, and helped lead an unforgettable run that included A-10 regular season and tournament titles and the program's first NCAA berth.

One of the most prolific sluggers in NCAA history, Cone was named the program's first NFCA All-American after posting a .415/.523/.880 slash line with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs in 48 games.

The Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native became the first repeat A-10 Player of the Year in more than two decades and then earned a spot on the All A-10 Championship Team while helping the Buff and Blue claim their first outright conference tournament crown.

Cone finished her decorated career with A-10 record totals for home runs (73) and RBIs (254) that rank among top 25 all-time in NCAA history. The four-time All-Conference honoree is also the program's all-time leader in hits (277), total bases (556), runs (195), on-base percentage (.492), slugging percentage (.784) and games played (239).

Cone's excellence extended off the field, as well. A two-time NCAA Woman of the Year nominee, she earned her undergraduate degree in Communication in May 2020 before posting a 3.80 GPA in the Media & Strategic Communication graduate program during the 2020-21 academic year.

She joins GW Athletic Hall of Famer Elana Meyers Taylor (2006, 2007) on the list of Buff and Blue luminaries to be named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans twice.

A key contributor in the circle, at the plate and in the field, Weber saved her best for last, setting career bests in every major pitching and hitting category during her fifth season in Buff and Blue. The New Egypt, N.J., native was recognized on the A-10 All-Conference Second Team and NFCA All-Region Second Team for her efforts.

On GW's march to the national tournament, Weber tallied a 14-1 record with a 2.22 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings while hitting .345 with 13 home runs and 44 RBIs. She won 14 straight decisions following a season-opening setback, with an 11-0 mark in A-10 play, and ranked fifth in the A-10 in long balls and slugging percentage (.691).

Weber earned her undergraduate degree in Public Health in May 2020 with a 3.84 GPA before posting a perfect 4.0 mark this school year while pursuing a master's in Epidemiology through the School of Public Health during the 2020-21 academic year. In recognition of her all-around excellence, she received the GW Athletics Red Auerbach Award this spring.

Beyond those individual accolades, Cone and Weber helped GW reach new heights over five seasons. They were part of 152 victories with a .633 winning percentage, a run of success that raised the program's profile within the A-10 to ultimately earn a spot on the national stage.
