BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior shortstop Carley Barjaktarovich has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Softball Team announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Barjaktarovich, the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball was one of Lehigh's top performers on the field and in the classroom in 2021.
The Academic All-District teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA whose schools are in the region. District 2 consists of schools from Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better and be a starter or key reserve.
Barjaktarovich carries a 3.84 cumulative GPA as a marketing major. She was named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League in May. The Richmond, Michigan native is a two-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, with 2021 honors still to come and has made Lehigh's Dean's List with a GPA greater than 3.60 in each of her first six semesters on campus. Barjaktarovich is involved in Lehigh's Athletics Department as a leader in Lehigh's Student-Athlete Mentors (SAM) organization.
On the field, Barjaktarovich enjoyed a terrific junior campaign that culminated in first team NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors. Barjaktarovich was also a second team All-Patriot League selection and the league's Defensive Player of the Year. Her .471 batting average ranked 10th nationally and was the second-highest single season total in program history. Barjaktarovich led the Patriot League with 57 hits and 19 stolen bases and finished second in the league with 36 runs scored.
On the field, Barjaktarovich was recognized as the top defensive player in the Patriot League and Lehigh's leading hitter and the spark plug atop the Mountain Hawks' batting order. A second-team All-Patriot League selection, Barjaktarovich finished with a .471 batting average, the second-highest single season total in school history. She leads the Patriot League with 57 hits and 19 stolen bases and ranks second in the league with 36 runs scored. Barjaktarovich was named to the All-Patriot League Tournament team after going 9-for-12 at the plate in four games with three runs scored. She has started all 106 games of her Lehigh career at shortstop.
Barjaktarovich is the first Lehigh softball player to earn Academic All-District honors since 2016 when three Mountain Hawks were honored: Morgan Decker, Alexis Watanabe and Carolyn Wright. Decker went on to be named a third team Academic All-American.
