Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-League Team Announced (4.15.21) - Patriot League - Patriot League Official Athletic Site

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell senior linebacker Rick Mottram was named the Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year in addition to being selected to the 12-member Academic All-Patriot League Team for the third time when the League office announced honors on Thursday.
 
The Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League Team honors student-athletes who excel both on and off the field and is made up of 12 student-athletes. The awards are nominated and voted on by the Patriot League Football sports information directors. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

2020-21 Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Rick Mottram, Bucknell, Sr., LB, Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown
Career Stats: 27 games played, 161 tackles (104 solo), 19.0 TFLs, 6.0 sacks, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries.
2020-21 Stats: 3 games played, 14 tackles (11 solo), 1.0 TFL, one interception returned 36 yards.
*Mottram is one of nine three-time Academic All-Patriot League selections (2018, ’19, ’20-21) in League history.
*Mottram was a 2019 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American and FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team in addition to a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 (2018-19).
*He was a recipient of Bucknell’s President’s Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement.
*He serves as the Patriot League’s representative on the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Connection Group.
*He has served as a Bucknell Teaching and Learning Center Tutor and a research assistant in the Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Dept.
*Mottram has already accepted a position as a systems engineer at Lockheed Martin Space upon graduation.

Mottram and Haffner Join Elite Club of Three-Time Academic All-League Honorees
Mottram (physics, 3.97 GPA) and Lehigh senior linebacker Pete Haffner (finance, 3.64 GPA) became the eighth and ninth football student-athletes to earn Academic All-Patriot League honors for the third time. Bucknell’s Alex Pechin, Fordham’s Josh Cerra and Dan Light, Holy Cross’s Sam Jones, John Macomber and Jake Wieczorek, and Lafayette’s Mark Ross were all three-time Academic All-Patriot League Football selections.
 
Six More Multi-Time Academic All-Patriot League Honorees Selected
Fordham senior linebacker Glenn Cunningham (economics, 3.49 GPA), junior linebacker Ryan Greenhagen (business administration, 3.84 GPA) and senior offensive lineman Nick Zakelj (finance, 3.66 GPA), Holy Cross junior running back Peter Oliver (chemistry/Spanish, 3.95 GPA), Lafayette senior linebacker Major Jordan (engineering, 3.6 GPA) and senior placekicker/punter Jeffrey Kordenbrock (mechanical engineering, 3.76 GPA) all earned a spot on the academic squad for the second time.
 
Six First-Team, Four Second-Team All-Patriot League Honorees Make Academic Team
Ten members of the academic squad were recognized as All-League members when it was announced by the League. Cunningham, Greenhagen, Kordenbrock and Zakelj, along with Bucknell senior linebacker Simeon Page (creative writing, 3.48 GPA) and Colgate junior defensive back/return specialist Will Gruber (psychology, 3.60 GPA), were all first-team selections. Haffner, Jordan, Oliver and Lafayette senior offensive lineman John Burk (electrical engineering and computer engineering, 3.72 GPA) collected second-team accolades. Gruber and Kordenbrock earned spots on the first- and second-teams at different positions.
 
Four Capture First Spot on Academic All-Patriot League Squad
Burk, Gruber, Page, and Lehigh junior wide receiver Austin Dambach (finance, 3.95 GPA) were all selected to the Academic All-Patriot League team for the first time.
 
2020-21 Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, given after the academic year. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
