Despite a rain delay pushing their game back about eight hours, the Owensboro Catholic Aces made short work of Crittenden County Saturday as they took down the Rockets 15-1 in five innings to advance to today’s All “A” Classic semifinals against St. Henry.
Aces coach Derek Hibbs said his team has been on a streak offensively.
“The bats have stayed hot,” he said. “Up and down the lineup, we continue to swing it.”

Catholic junior Hayden Ward got the start on the mound and didn’t find out he was getting the nod until Friday evening. He said he didn’t try to overthink things during the long delay.
“They always say don’t be the weatherman,” he said. “The whole day, you just have to keep a positive attitude and don’t let it affect you.”
Other than a run in the first, Ward mowed down the Rocket hitters as he went all five innings and had 8 strikeouts while allowing just 3 hits.
He said he was ready for the challenge because he knew his teammates had his back.
“I knew I had a great defense behind me,” he said. “Just pound the zone and let the offense do the work.”
In the top half of the first, the Aces started on the right foot with five runs to give Ward a cushion before he even stepped on the mound.
Ward said when the offense is rolling, his job becomes that much easier.
“It helps out a lot,” he said. “Just being able to know that your offense will have your back.”
Catholic added three in the third and seven runs in the fourth to put the game away in five frames.
Sam McFarland (2-4, 3 RBIs, R), Luke Scales (2-4, 3 RBIs, R), Finley Munsey (2-3, RBI, 2 R) and Hunter Small (2-2, 4 RBIs, 2 R) all had multiple hits for the Aces.
Luke Evans, Braden Mundy, E Munsey and J Wall each scored twice in the win.
Catholic advances to play St. Henry in tomorrow’s semifinal at 12:30 p.m.
Hibbs said he was impressed with St. Henry in their win over Holy Cross Saturday as he knows they come from a tough region.
“They upset Beechwood in their region, which Beechwood, they’ve won half of these things so they’re always a power,” he said. “If they can beat them and continue to roll, we’re going to have a tough game for sure.”
