SPORTS News:

The Gold, Platinum and Diamond gymnasts at Los Alamos School of Gymnastics (LASG) have been working hard to prepare for The New Mexico State Championships and it showed.

At the virtual New Mexico state meet held April 10, all LASG gymnasts who competed qualified to their respective Regional meet.

In Diamond, the highest level of Xcel competition, LASG was represented by six gymnasts. All had an exceptionally strong showing at the state meet, and all six gymnasts qualified to the region 3 championship meet that will take place in Aurora, Colo. Seven states comprise Region 3.

The youngest member of the team, Kylee Lovato finished on top, scoring a 36.70 to become the New Mexico State All Around Diamond Champion for the 2020-2021 season! She was followed by Brianna Fryer in 2nd (36.35), Collette Bibeault in 3rd (35.725), Sara Gardner in 4th (35.225), Megan Brown in 5th (34.775) and Danielle Trellue in 6th (34.3).

Lovato also was the Vault, Beam and Floor State Champion. On the vault, she placed 1st with a score of 9.1 and Gardner came in 2nd (9.05) followed by Bibeault in 3rd (9.0). Fryer, the bar state champion, took the gold medal with a score of 9.25. Brown came in 2nd (9.025) followed by Bibeault in 3rd (9.0).

These gymnasts have worked exceptionally hard over the past year in an environment that was constantly changing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The regional meet will be their first chance this season to compete live in front of judges alongside their competitors from other teams. We want to wish them all good luck as they head to competition.

In the gold junior division, Eliana Rodriguez placed 2nd in vault with an 8.9 score and an all-around score of 34.35. In the gold senior division, Emily Xu placed 1st in beam with a score of 8.85, becoming the Gold Junior division State Beam Champion. She also had a strong 3rd place all-around finish with a score of 34.3. Rodriguez and Xu will be competing in their regional meet May 7-9 in Galveston, Texas.

The platinum team was represented by Aspen Kendall in the senior division, who shared the Platinum vault state champion title. She placed 1st on vault with a score of 9.05, 3rd on bars (8.2) and beam (8.15) and 2nd place on floor (8.8).
