Dor Saar, a three-time America East All-Conference selection, opted to enter the transfer portal and play her additional year of eligibility at Middle Tennessee following a dynamic career at Maine.
Saar, a native of Ma'Anit, Israel, is Maine's career leader in 3-pointers with 235 and she capped her career second on the school's all-time assists list with 507. She is the only player in Maine history to eclipse 1,000 points and 500 assists in a career. Saar played in 117 career games, starting 112.
Saar ranks 21st on Maine's all-time scoring list with 1,069 points and averaged 9.1 points, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals during her stellar career. She led the Bears to two America East championships.
"I am delighted Dor decided to join the Lady Raider program," Insell said. "(Saar) is the consummate team player, she's a great passer, has great vision and she gets everybody involved. She has tremendous quickness to blow by defenders then if you back off any she knocks down shots from great range.
"(Saar's) basketball IQ is through the roof. With what we already have coming in our guard positions are unbelievable. The women's basketball program at Middle Tennessee is where it needs to be."
In addition to being named America East All-Conference three years, Saar was also the America East Rookie of the Year in 2018. In addition to her passing prowess, Saar also shoots for a high percentage. She is a 36 percent career shooter beyond the arc and blistered the nets to the tune of 36.6 percent in 2020-21, ranking second in the America East and 76th nationally.
Saar ranked first in the America East for assist-turnover ratio, assists, assister per game, minutes per game and she was third in steals. Saar also has been named to the America East All-Academic team.
Saar was the America East active leader in assists in 2020-21. She amassed five or more assists 50 times.
"Dor has given everything to Maine women's basketball over these last four years," Maine head coach Amy Vachon said. "She will leave Maine as one of the best point guards ever to wear the blue and white. While it will be strange seeing Dor wear a different uniform, I will always be a fan and cheer for Dor Saar. I wish her nothing but the best in her future."
Saar has a wealth of high-level international competition experience. She was a captain for the Israeli Basketball Academy in 2016-17 and played three years with the Team Israel International team. She was a three-time International Tournament Most Valuable Player. She averaged 10.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in leading her U-18, U-16 and U-14 teams to the Israel national championship and national cup.
Saar joins Lady Raider prep signees Courtney Blakely, Gracie Dodgen, Jaylynn Gregory and Amiya Payne, along with VCU transfer Kseniya Malashka, in the 2021 signing class.
The Division I basketball signing period began Wednesday and ends Aug. 1, 2021.
