Seven Rutgers women’s soccer players receive All-Big Ten honors - On The Banks

Rutgers women’s soccer matched a program best with seven players receiving All-Big Ten honors on Wednesday.

Forward Amirah Ali and back Gabby Provenzano were First Team All-Big Ten selections, goalkeeper Meagan McClelland was a Second Team All-Big Ten selection and forward Nneka Moneme earned Third Team All-Big Ten honors.

In addition, three newcomers were named to the All-Freshman Team. They include forward Sam Kroeger, midfielder Becci Fluchel and back Emma Misal. Rutgers was the only team to have multiple selections. The trio has started in every game this season for Rutgers and have been a key part of this team’s success.

Ali earned her fourth All-Big Ten selection of her career and it was the third time she was named to the First Team. The two-time All-American and MAC Hermann Trophy candidate led Rutgers with six goals, which is tied for third most in the conference. She was tied a league best with three game winning goals and owns a program record with nine total in her career.

Provenzano earned her first ever All-Big Ten selection after leading a backline that helped produce six shutouts and held every opponent to single digit shot attempts this season. She has played every minute of every game this season and also has one goal and one assist. The captain has been a mainstay in the RU defense over the years with 58 career starts.

McClelland made Second Team All-Big Ten for a second consecutive season after earning Third Team honors, as well as Freshman of the Year and All-Freshman Team in 2018. She had six shutouts in goal and has a Big Ten best goals against average of 0.576.

Moneme is the only Rutgers player other than Ali to have scored multiple goals this season and made All-Big Ten for a second straight season.

Kroeger and Fluchel share the team lead with three assists each along with another freshman, Sara Brocious. Misal has been a key member of a back line that’s helped produce six shutouts and held every opponent to single digit shot attempts this season.

Rutgers will face Wisconsin in the Big Ten semifinals on Thursday night. The Scarlet Knights defeated Michigan State and Ohio State to advance to a second consecutive Big Ten semifinal and fourth all-time.

The Scarlet Knights (8-2-3; 6-2-3) take on the Badgers after losing in Madison in late March 1-0 after surrendering a goal in the 87th minute. RU held a 13-4 shot advantage in the contest, including 7-1 with shots on goal.

Tonight’s rematch will feature teams that each had four players earn All-Big Ten First, Second and Third Team selections. Scoring will be a challenge in this game, as Wisconsin’s Jordyn Bloomer won Goalkeeper of the Year and was a First Team selection along with McClelland earning Second Team honors.

The game will take place in University Park, PA at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
