Cone Named NFCA All-American - George Washington University - Official Athletic Site

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jenna Cone made more history on Wednesday, becoming the first GW softball student-athlete to be named an NFCA All-American.

Following a career-best season in which she led the Buff and Blue to their first NCAA Tournament appearance, the graduate student from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., earned a spot on the All-America Second Team at third base.

Cone secured a spot among a who's who of national standouts on the prestigious list thanks to a .415/.523/.880 slash line with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs across 48 games. The decorated slugger was named A-10 Player of the Year for the second time after helping the program claim its first conference regular season title and then landed a place on the All A-10 Championship Team as the Buff & Blue celebrated their first outright tournament title.

She was eligible for All-America consideration after being named to the NFCA's All-Region list for the fourth time in her career.

"I am honored to be selected as an NFCA All-American," said Cone, who was among 54 honorees representing 30 programs across the country. "I am so thankful for my family, all my amazing teammates and coaches and the administrators who have helped make my five years at GW so amazing. I am so proud to be a part of the growth of this program and am excited to say that I am an alumna of the GW softball team. Raise High!"

Over five seasons, Cone established herself among the nation's top power threats, accumulating an impressive collection of individual records and accolades along the way. Her 254 RBIs and 73 home runs are both A-10 records and rank among the top 25 in NCAA history, and she's also the program's all-time leader in a slew of other categories, including hits (277), total bases (556), runs (195), on-base percentage (.492), slugging percentage (.784) and games played (239).

Those statistics paid off in team success as the Buff and Blue broke their program record for wins three times during her career, including a memorable run in 2019 when they won 44 games and a share of their first A-10 title with Cone earning her first conference Player of the Year award and an All-America nod from Softball America.

After the COVID-19 pandemic cut short her senior season in 2020, Cone opted to return, along with classmates Jessica Linquist and Faith Weber, for one final season in Buff and Blue. The result was a history-making spring in which the squad went 37-11 overall and swept the A-10 regular season and tournament titles to earn its place on the national stage.

Amid lofty expectations, Cone set the pace for a nationally-ranked offense that averaged seven runs per game.

During GW's 23-1 conference regular season, Cone was practically unstoppable, slashing .500/.600/1.139 with 22 extra-base hits and 34 RBIs. The highlights included the program's first three-home run game on March 21 at George Mason and a shining weekend at Saint Louis that earned her Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week honors.

At the conference tournament, Cone drove in six runs in five contests, including a pair of RBIs in the winner-take-all finale vs. Dayton on May 15.

Six days later, Cone went down with an ankle injury during her first NCAA at-bat at the Baton Rouge Regional, but against the odds, she managed to return the next day for a pinch-hitting cameo and, in a scene fit for Hollywood, finished her career with a hard-hit single into right field.

Beyond the field, Cone was honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-American (2020), NCAA Woman of the Year nominee (2020) and A-10 All-Academic honoree (2021).

On Wednesday, the NFCA added to Cone's accomplished resume with her latest national honor and another program first, a well-deserved reward for a superb season to cap an unmatched career in Buff and Blue.
