Four Broncos Earn All-MAC Baseball Accolades - WMUBroncos.com

CLEVELAND -  The Mid-American Conference announces its postseason baseball awards on Wednesday with four Western Michigan baseball student-athletes earning all-conference honors.

The duo of junior Connor Charping and senior Drew Devine earned First Team All-MAC honors while junior Sean O'Keefe was named Second Team All-MAC. For his stellar play at third base, sophomore Jimmy Allen was named to the All-MAC Defensive Team.

WMU's four all-conference selections was second most in the conference behind CMU, Kent State and Ball State with seven each. It's the first time since 2008 the Broncos have had two named First Team All-MAC.

Junior Connor Charping played and started all 50 games for the Broncos and ended the season with a .355 batting average, the fifth best mark in the MAC. Charping led WMU in batting average, runs (42), hits (65) and stolen bases (32).
Charping's 32 stolen bases was the most in a single-season in school history. The Trenton, Mich., native ended the regular season raking fourth in the NCAA in stolen bases and ninth in stolen bases per game. 

Senior Drew Devine earns all-conference accolades for the second time in his career, being named Second Team All-MAC in 2019 before earning First Team All-MAC honors this season. Devine had 12 multi-hit and six multi-RBI games during his senior campaign and was one of four Broncos to hit over .300.

Devine ranked ninth in the conference in doubles this season with his 14 doubles being tied for the eighth most in a single-season in school history. The Marshall, Mich., native was patient at the plate during his senior campaign drawing 36 walks, the sixth most in the MAC. Overall Devine posted a career-high five home runs to go along with 29 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

After leading the Broncos in home runs (8) and RBIs (43), junior Sean O'Keefe earned Second Team All-MAC honors. O'Keefe's eight home runs as tied for fourth most in the conference while his 43 RBIs were fifth most. O'Keefe registered 18 multi-hit games this season and led WMU with 12 multi-RBI games.

O'Keefe ended the regular season ranking second on the team with a .310 batting average with a .503 slugging and .349 on-base percentage. The Saline, Mich., native led the Broncos in extra-base hits with eight home runs and 14 doubles. O'Keefe was one of just four Broncos to hit over .300 this season.

Playing primarily at third base, sophomore Jimmy Allen was named to the All-MAC Defensive Team. Allen posted a .978 fielding percentage during the 2021 season and committed just two errors in 49 games played.

At the plate Allen hit .261 with 31 runs scored, three home runs and 21 RBIs. Allen also had five doubles to go along with a team-high two triples. The sophomore third baseman recorded nine multi-hit performances and five multi-RBI games. Allen played and started the final 26 games of the season without committing an error.
