Squads are named an All-Academic Team for maintaining a team cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better during the past school year. A total of 80 Division I programs received the distinction.
Under head coach Matt Grobe, the Herd has maintained excellence in the classroom. During his nine seasons players have been named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll 54 times for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. His players have also received the Academic Medal 15 times for sporting an overall GPA of 3.75 or better. Grobe has had three different players named to the five-member, Conference USA All-Academic Team a total of five times. Brian Anania was named in 2013 and 2014, Alex Weiss was honored in 2017 and 2018. This year, sophomore Tyler Jones was named for the first time.
By the end of the 2020-21 academic year, 13 of Marshall's 14 players were named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. Five earned the Academic Medal in redshirt senior Matt Hoffman, senior Noah Mullens, freshmen Joseph Kalaskey and Brett Montgomery and Jones.
