Clergeot, a senior, was named to the first team as he led the Southland in free throws made during the 2020-21 season with 154. The Winter Haven, Florida native averaged 15.9 points per game which led the Lions and was fourth in the league. The Lions' guard also scored in double figures in 18 straight games to end the season, including a career-high 26 points in a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi back on Jan. 13th.
Joining Clergeot on the first team was Nicholls' Ty Gordon and Ryghe Lyons, UNO's Troy Green, and A&M-Corpus Christi's Myles Smith.
Okafor, a second team selection, showed his versatility for the Lions last season. The Baltimore, Maryland product was second on the team in scoring (12.4 ppg) and led the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and steals (31). The junior started all 25 games he played in and led the team in minutes played with 794.
On the second team with Okafor was UIW's Brandon Swaby and Drew Lutz, HBU's Za-Ontay Boothman and Northwestern State's Larry Owens.
The Southland Preseason Poll will also be announced later Tuesday as the league office will release the forecast for 2021-22.
