Humeida Sets FGCU 8K Record, Earns All-Conference Honors at ASUN Championship - FGCU Athletics

ORLANDO, Fla.Osman Humeida (South Riding, Va./Freedom HS/Virginia Tech) earned all-conference second-team honors and set a new men's cross country program record in the 8K to highlight FGCU's performances at the ASUN Championship Meet held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex on Saturday afternoon. The men's team placed fifth overall, while the women's team placed 12th.

"I was happy Osman broke the school record and made the all-conference team in a very strong field. Franklin also ran a huge PR," said head coach Cassandra Goodson. "The guys worked together throughout the race and that helped our overall team place."

Humeida led the Eagles' pack by placing 13th overall and completing the course in 24 minutes, 31.4 seconds. He broke teammate Lucas Kiprotich's (Eldoret, Kenya/Concord HS/Eastern Kentucky) previous mark of 24 minutes, 32.80 seconds which he set at the 2019 Live in Lou Classic. The fifth-year transfer from Virginia Tech became the first all-conference runner since Kiprotich and Austin Redondo (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef Senior HS) each did so in 2019.

Redondo was the second runner for FGCU to cross the finish line as he placed 37th with a time of 25 minutes, 37 seconds. That marked his fastest 8K of the season and third best overall.

A trio of Eagles were just behind as Franklin Caceres (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker HS) and Kiprotich finished 54th (26:01.5) and 55th (26:11.7), respectively. Bradyn Ricca ran a time of 26 minutes, 14.7 seconds to place 57th. Benjamin Hermiston (Sherrill, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead HS) crossed the finish in 26 minutes, 30.7 seconds as the final scorer on the day.

Caceres shaved nearly 43 seconds off his previous personal record in the event which he ran at the FSU Pre-Nationals two weeks ago. Kiprotich and Ricca also ran a season-best 8K marks. Kiprotich had his second-best time in four ASUN Championship races, while Ricca was just over a second behind his best ASUN time of 26 minutes, 13.3 seconds in 2019. Hermiston had his fastest ASUN Championship race and third fastest collegiate 8K time overall as well.

North Florida won the men's title for the second consecutive season with 41 points, while Eastern Kentucky's Ahmed Jaziri won the individual title in 24 minutes, 7.7 seconds. UNF had three runners in the top 10 and four in the top 12.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday, Nov. 12 at the NCAA Regionals hosted by North Alabama in Huntsville, Ala.
