In the Trenches: All Discusses Eagerness, Mindset Heading into MSU Matchup

On this week's edition of the "In the Trenches" podcast, Jon Jansen talks about the meaning of the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry in the state and breaks down some of the key Spartans to watch. Then, tight end Erick All stops by to discuss his recent performances as a pass catcher and blocker and looks ahead to this weekend's huge matchup with MSU.

On Sunday, one day after Michigan's home victory over Northwestern, several Wolverines went to a haunted house. In a twist, though, the zombies, goblins, and demons were not the ones foaming at the mouth, ready to attack their adversaries. The conversation among the likes of Erick All, Blake Corum and Nikhai Hill-Green deviated away from the haunted house, and toward this Saturday's trip to East Lansing.
"We were all just talking about it non-stop, like, 'Man, we can't wait,'" All said on this week's edition of the "In the Trenches" podcast with Jon Jansen. "We're ready to go into practice. We're ready to find out what Coach (Jim Harbaugh) has in store for us. We're ready to get out there again, and hopefully get out there and just play a dominant, physical game."
The Wolverines' uptick in physicality has been vital to their successes in 2021, especially in the run game. All, Luke Schoonmaker, Joel Honigford, and the rest of the tight end group have embraced that mindset, and they have joined forces with Michigan's offensive line to pave the way for one of the nation's most dangerous rushing attacks.
"You gotta be one of the toughest on the field because you're basically like an extra (offensive) lineman that's blocking (the) second level, first level, third level," All said about playing tight end. "It's great. It's fun."
The entire season for this team has been great and fun, as the Wolverines have surged to a 7-0 start that, according to All, "feels amazing." The same can be said for Saturday's foe. Michigan State also has rattled off seven straight wins, bringing about the first top-10 matchup in this rivalry since 1964.
Another motivational factor is that Michigan State also comes in with the most recent victory in the series, a Halloween-weekend win inside an empty Big House in 2020. All and the Wolverines have not forgotten that feeling, which provides this rivalry matchup even more juice.
"It means everything, especially after they came into our house (and won)," All said. "Ever since then, we've got our eye on them -- and Ohio State, obviously -- but, we're ready, and we're ready to get out there."
"Everybody is ready to definitely go out there and get our get-back."
