RAPID CITY, S.D. – The high school basketball season may be over in South Dakota but fans who didn’t get their fill of high school hoops will have another opportunity to check out some of the top players from around the region.
The Lakota All-Star Basketball Games will take place on April 24 in Rapid City at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The girls all-star game tips off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys all-star game at 8 p.m.
The boys game will feature 26 players from South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, North Dakota, Kansas and Florida.
Meanwhile the girls roster features 22 players.
“We have a lot of really good talent even Jesse White from North Dakota,” said event coordinator Dale Pine Jr. “He was the North Dakota Mr. Basketball up in North Dakota. We have the Irving twins for the girls game from Kansas and they were both all state down there. If there was a downside to it, its kind of we had to have a cutoff point this year.”
The event will also honor the 1983 Pine Ridge girls basketball team, as well as, the 1995 Red Cloud boys basketball team.
In addition, two standout athletes will also be recognized and honored during the all-star games.
“Devona Lone Wolf. She played at the University of South Dakota back in the ’70s,” said Dale Pine Jr. “Also Beau DuBray. He would have played in the All-Star game last year but he passed away this past fall. So we’re going to bring in his family and honor his memory as someone that would have played in the basketball game.”
