U-M Earns 13 All-America Citations, Third-Place Team Finish at NCAA Finals

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The second-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team finished in third place with a score of 408.225, and 11 Wolverines earned 13 All-America citations in the NCAA Team and All-Around finals Saturday night (April 17) at Minnesota's Maturi Pavilion.
Michigan (19-3) began the night once again on pommel horse, scoring a season-low 65.566. U-M overcame a pair of subpar efforts and were aided by a 13.800 from sophomore Paul Juda and a 13.600 from sophomore David Willett, who both earned All-America honors. Juda finished as the runner-up on the event. After one rotation, U-M sat in fourth place, nearly seven points off the pace of Stanford.
In the second rotation, U-M marked a 69.298 on still rings, led by identical 14.033 scores from seniors James Read and Cameron Bock, good enough for All-America honors for both. The score was U-M's third-highest on the event this season. At the end of the rotation, U-M fell to fifth place and trailed Stanford by 5.6 points.
U-M took on vault in the third rotation and scored a 70.132 thanks to a 14.600 from Juda, a 14.233 from senior Jacob Moore, a 14.133 from sophomore Casey Cummings, and 14.066 from senior Nick Guy. After three, U-M moved up to third place, nearly 3.5 points off Stanford's lead and was nearly one point away from second-place Oklahoma.
The fourth rotation saw U-M score a 68.498 on parallel bars. The mark was the second-best score on the season for U-M on the event. The effort was aided by a pair of career-highs from freshman Evgeny Siminiuc (14.266) and sophomore Virgil Watkins (14.066). Siminiuc, Watkins, and Bock (13.900) earned All-America honors for their efforts on the event and Siminiuc finished as the runner-up. At the end of the rotation, U-M remained in third place which trailed Stanford by nearly 5.6 points and Oklahoma by nearly 4.6.
In the fifth rotation, U-M struggled to a 65.265 on high bar and had to count falls on the apparatus from both Juda and Bock. U-M was led by a 13.833 from sophomore Adam Wooten and two scores of 13.533 from seniors Anthony Tawfik and Thomas Paul, all good for All-America honors. Heading into the final rotation, U-M sat in fourth place, six points off first-place Oklahoma and .70 behind third-place Minnesota.
U-M finished the night on floor exercise, scoring a 71.599 behind a 14.900 from Moore, a 14.800 from Guy, a 14.166 from Juda and a 14.000 from Read. The score was a season-high for U-M on the event, and Moore and Guy earned All-America honors for their efforts.
U-M finished in third place behind Stanford (414.521) and Oklahoma (411.591), the top finish for a Big Ten team on the night.

Michigan wrapped up the season as Big Ten regular-season champions, Big Ten postseason champions and with a perfect 13-0 regular-season record. In addition, head coach Kurt Golder was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, and he and his staff were named CGA Midwest Regional Coaches of the Year. Juda was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and CGA National MVP.
