Volleyball's Olivia Lohmeier and Bridget Bessler Earn AVCA All-Midwest Region Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For just the second time in program history and the first time since 2010, Morehead State volleyball's roster features two American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region players as Olivia Lohmeier and Bridget Bessler earned the honors Tuesday.

For Lohmeier, the selection marks the second-consecutive AVCA All-Midwest Region selection, making her one of two players in program history to earn two career AVCA All-Region honors, joining Amy Almond (2001, 2002). Bessler's selection—an AVCA All-Midwest Region Honorable Mention selection—is the first of her career as she becomes the fourth setter and ninth overall player in program history to earn All-Region honors.

The 2020-21 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, Lohmeier enters the 2020-21 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship ranked 17th in points per set (5.08) and 20th in kills per set (4.40) in the NCAA, ranking 10th and ninth, respectively, amongst players in the NCAA Tournament.

On the year, the Cincinnati, Ohio native slammed home a team and OVC-leading 255 kills while scoring a league-high 284.0 points. Lohmeier also adds a .293 hitting efficiency, ranking ninth in the OVC, with 41 total blocks on the season.

Lohmeier enters postseason play featuring a 29-match, double-figure kill match streak, ranking ninth in program history with 1,478 kills. Sporting a .273 career hitting efficiency, she also ranks seventh in program history in the category.

Bessler, a First Team All-OVC selection enters the NCAA Tournament ranked fifth in the country in assists per set, passing out 11.72 helpers per set. Amongst the NCAA Tournament field, she ranks third in assists per set, behind just Western Kentucky's Nadia Dieudonne and Kentucky's Madison Lilley.

The Hebron, Ky. native, passed out an OVC-leading 680 assists this season, leading Morehead State to a .267 team hitting efficiency, the highest season hitting percentage for the program since 1988 while ranking 22nd in the NCAA. Bessler also added 137 digs, 45 kills, and 17 blocks on the season.

Entering postseason play, Bessler has tallied 30 or more assists in all 17 matches this season and enters ranked 12th in program history in total assists with 1856 helpers.

Bessler and Lohmeier, and Morehead State open the 2020-21 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship tomorrow afternoon against Creighton. The match airs on ESPN3 and features a 3:30 p.m. ET first serve time.
