Luescher Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team - Binghamton University Athletics

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Noah Luescher – who will return for a final season this coming fall – has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team. It marks the first time in his career that he has earned the distinction.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

Luescher ranked fifth in the nation at the NCAA Division I level this past season with 0.83 goals per game. He was also ninth with 1.83 points per contest. Luescher was named first-team all-conference by the America East and was also chosen to its All-Academic Team for the second straight year. Also during the 2020-21 season, Luescher was named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, which takes into consideration a student-athlete's record in athletics, academics and community involvement.
Luescher is the fourth Binghamton men's soccer player to have been named to the COSIDA Academic All-District Team since the program moved up to the NCAA Division I level in 2001. He joins Charles Darkwah (2004), Chris Terry (2009) and Pascal Trappe (2015). Darkwah went on to earn Academic All-America honors that same season.

"What a great honor for Noah," head coach Paul Marco said. "To be acknowledged for his academic and athletic performances by CoSIDA is a great accomplishment and is a testament to who he is as a student-athlete."

"It's an honor to receive this very prestigious award," Luescher said. "I am lucky to have such a great support system that helps me through any obstacle that I face. This award goes to all of those people as much as it does to me."

In the season opener against Albany on Feb. 26, Luescher tied his career high with two goals. He was subsequently named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on March 1 and was the America East Offensive Player of the Week on March 2.

Luescher became the first Binghamton player to net goals in four straight games (Feb. 26-March 23) since Jake Keegan did the same during the 2012 season. He was also the first Bearcat player at the NCAA Division I level to record a point in five consecutive games.

"This was not an easy year for anyone," he said. "But the fall season getting postponed gave me some time to work on myself and become better every day. This award fills me with pride to see that my hard work has paid off and it motivates me to keep grinding and become the best version of myself."

NOTE: The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
