Ashley Tutt Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team - Northern Illinois University Athletics

DEKALB, Ill. -- Ashley Tutt (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) of the Northern Illinois University track and field team was named to the 2020-21 Collegiate Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team announced on Thursday (July 15).

"Ashley continues to make us proud on and off the track," said NIU Director of Track and Field Connie Teaberry. "This award places and explanation mark on a phenomenal school year for Ashley and is a well-deserved honor. Ashley's drive academically has never been compromised and her academic work ethic is just as fierce as her athletic work ethic. She will be successful in everything she is involved in, and we are proud to call her a NIU alum."

In addition, Tutt has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award which recognizes female college athletes who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

A history major with a 3.85 grade point average, Tutt's remarkable 2020-21 season included All-America honors in the indoor track 5,000 meters, two Mid-American Conference team championships, three NCAA Championship appearances and five individual MAC titles.

Tutt opened the year with a second-place finish at the MAC Cross Country Championship, earning First Team All-MAC honors, while helping the Huskies claim the first conference cross country title in program history. That performance helped the Channahon, Ill., native earn a trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championship for the second consecutive season.

During the indoor track and field season, Tutt was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the MAC Championships as she won conference crowns in the mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters while helping the Huskies win their first MAC Indoor Track and Field team championship. Tutt went on to finish 13th in the 5,000 at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn Second Team All-America honors.

Capping a historic season, Tutt won two more conference titles outdoors, claiming the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. After advancing from the NCAA West Preliminary in the 10,000 meters, Tutt finished her season with a 22nd-place finish in the 10,000 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Tutt is NIU Track and Field's first CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree since Hope Schmelzle in 2017. As a First Team Academic All-District honoree, Tutt now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-August.
