Five Mountaineers earned spots on the team with a 4.0 grade point average: redshirt junior Katherine Dowie (exercise physiology), sophomore Maria Kaylor (human nutrition & foods), redshirt junior Malina Mitchell (sport and exercise physiology), fifth-year senior Bree Warren (speech pathology-language) and sophomore Megan Weaver (biomedical engineer).
Redshirt junior Samantha Hatcher (nursing), junior Ceili McCabe (sport and adventure media) and senior Charlotte Wood (physical education & kinesiology) also represented WVU on the team.
In all, 150 student-athletes, including 78 women, were recognized on the all-academic teams. A total of 31 honorees garnered a 4.0 GPA.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Looking ahead, WVU is off until it begins its postseason in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the Big 12 Championships, on Friday, Oct. 29, at the OSU Cross Country Course. The race is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
