In order to be eligible for the America East All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.3. In addition, they must have been a significant contributor to their team during the current season.
"We are very happy for Emily, Aziza and Dan," head coach Annette Acuff said. "All three of them continue to represent Binghamton very well both with their running and their academics."
Mackay, who will compete at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, makes her second straight appearance on the America East Cross Country All-Academic Team. She captured her second consecutive America East title back on Oct. 29 and was third overall at the NCAA Northeast Region Meet last Friday.
Schaffer, meanwhile, makes his third career appearance on the All-Academic Team, having also been chosen in 2018 and 2020-21. He won his first career America East individual cross country title back on Oct. 29 and earned All-Northeast Region honors with a 23rd-place finish at last Friday's regional meet.
Schaffer is just the second Binghamton men's runner to have been named to the America East All-Academic Team. He joins Chris Gaube, who was honored in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Chigatayeva, meanwhile, makes her third straight appearance on the America East All-Academic Team. She placed fifth overall at the America East Championships, marking the fourth straight year that she has recorded a top-five finish at the meet. Chigatayeva is now the only Binghamton cross country female to ever be named to the America East All-Academic Team three times during her career.
The NCAA women's cross country championship will aired lived at 10 a.m. on Saturday on ESPNU.
