In the eyes of some, the New York Giants need to move on from quarterback Daniel Jones. But with a weak class of quarterbacks coming in, might they be better suited to make a trade?

As fate would have it, the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson appear destined to divorce

Because of that impending breakup, Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports believes the Giants should go “all-in” on trading for Wilson this coming offseason.

It’s time for the Giants to do something drastic if they want to get out of the basement of the NFL. This offseason, the Giants must go all-in trading for Russell Wilson.

The potential cost for Wilson? Two 2022 first-round picks, a 2023 first-round pick and additional assets including players and/or more draft picks.

The Giants have arguably the best trade package available. Following Week 11, the Giants stood to have the fifth overall pick in April’s draft plus the No. 7 pick by virtue of the Chicago trade that netted the Bears Justin Fields. Only the Jets have two top 10 picks this year, and they just got their franchise QB in Zach Wilson a few months ago.

Two first-rounders alone wouldn’t get it done, but it’s a necessary start. New York would have to throw in a 2023 first-rounder and some other items (players and/or picks) to make this work.

That’s a hefty price to pay for a 33-year-old quarterback and that’s not even factoring in Wilson’s massive contract, which the Giants could not afford at the moment. They would need to clear substantial cap space to bring Wilson in, resulting in a roster that is further thinned out and unable to be replenished after trading away so many picks.

Trading for Wilson would certainly be a headline-like move, but would it actually make the Giants a better team? With so many other needs, it’s hard to say it would.

The Giants would be wiser to spend their draft picks on can’t miss offensive linemen than the final few years of an aging (albeit talented) quarterback.
